  1. The landlord in our district was Lord Farnham. The family have been in the district for over one hundred years. He was a good landlord, but some of his ancestors were very severe. Those that were evicted either went to the poorhouse or went to neighbours houses. The landlord divided the land into little farms, and these farms were subdivided by the tenants to their sons.
The landlord punished anyone who went against him. He would not let them cut turf on their farms, or cut down tees, if they did they would be evicted or sent to prison, also if they would not pay the rent or rates in time.
