Butter -making and churns.
Long ago the old people used get alot more trouble with butter than nowadays.
They used churn with a churn-dash wash it with a cream stand,salt it with salt and a timber "shimmer"as it was called at that time.
Then the woman could go to the shop and carry the butter in pans.They used have long hair at that time and they used make a plait of it ,and leave the pan on top of their heads.
On Mondays markets used be held at that time.No lorries used go from the shops like nowadays ,only the shopkeepers used send it to Scarriff and Gort by horses and cars.In winter the prices used amount to 5d 6d 71/2d and in Summer(continues on next page)- Collector
