  1. On all Hallow Eve night when we were young we used to stay up until twelve o'clock to eat an apple. You have to eat an apple and keep looking into the looking glass at the same time. While you'd be looking at the mirror, and eating at the same time, the man you were going to marry was supposed to come and look over your shoulder, and you'd see for a moment in the glass.
    It was often said that the "Ould Boy" (the devil) used come and look over the girl's shoulder.
    We used to have terrible fun about it anyway.
