The ball was like the usual leather ball but something heavier. The hurleys they used were made from ash and were like the usual hurley in shape. They were cut out and made by the country people and often the hurlers themselves made them.
About thirty years ago there was a great football team in Portumna. They played against Killmore at Willimount. There were fifteen men each side and after a long and heavy math, Portumna won by two goals.
The late Michael Tuohy, who lives in Patrick St. Portumna, was the best footballer on the field.- Collector
