- Long ago people had no ropes except what they made themselves.
First of all they had to cut the grass or [?] them shake it out to dry in a ruck to get the sun to make it firm.
Then they made a hook with a rod and one man let it pass slowly through his fingers while another twisted the rod and this formed it into a rope.
