- Long ago the houses were very small and were built of rough stones and clay. The houses were all thatched. The thatch was got from the rushes that was growing on the land, and some thatched their houses with straw which was got from corn or rye.
There was a bed in every kitchen which was called an out-shot. It was placed at the fire at the black side wall. The fire was at the gable wall. Some chimneys were made of stones and mortar other chimneys were made of clay and wattles.
The old floors were made of clay and some of them were flagged. There were half doors on every house.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
