The oaten bread was made by wetting the oat meal with hot water and kneading it. It was then made into little this cakes and baked in front of the fire standing against a support which was usually a stone. There was a cross cut on the top of every cake in memory of the bread our Lord blessed. - The bread made locally is not like the bread we make now. It was very strong because it was made made of oatmeal. Oatmeal was fixed with a little salt and soda. Water was added for he kneading, then it was dried with a little flour and was flattened out on a bread board.
