- A man named Sweeney was coming home late one night from a neighbour's house in Gurteen. A big shower of rain came. He went for shelter to a white thorn hedge. He said alout "this would be a likely place for a ghost." No sooner were the words out of his mouth than out stepped a big fish. He went towards home and the fish in hot pursuit. The fish followed him ever afterwards if he happened to be out between sunset and sunrise. The fish always kept on his left hand side and if another person walked at his left side the fish was not to be seen. It was supposed that the guardian angel of the other person kept on his left side and kept off the fish. The fish was supposed not to be able to go at his own right side since his guardian angel guarded him on that side.
