- About two hundreds year ago there were no schools like there are now. There (was) were hedge school everywhere about, the nearest hedge school to my home was in Rosnalough about two miles from my home a nine miles from Monaghan. The children did not go to school as young as now-a-days. They had to work as well as learn. They did not write with pens or pencils but they wrote with quill pens on wax tablets. The quill pen was made out of a quill. The children had to mind cows sheep and horse, they also had to do a lot of other things.
