basket and ran home to tell his mother.
When he came back he searched for the basket but could not find it. He then perceived that the fairies owned the basket.
Nearly one hundred years ago in the townland of Straghan in Donagh parish, two men were ploughing in a field. When the horses reached the top of the field, the men saw a pitcher of water and two little oat cakes. One man said, "This must have been left for us, and I will eat some of it". But the other said, ""What belongs to the devil will never go into my stomach".
The first man ate some and when they reached the bottom of the field, the man who would not eat the bread, saw his horse fall down dead. People say that the fairies left the bread there.
