- One fair summer's morning as Morpheus was parting
The feathered race warbling their notes on each bough
As beauteous Aurora just sprang from the ocean
The fragrance of Flora diffused in each flower
For sweet recreation I went perambulating
Where the primrose and daisies were strewn on the plain
Where cowslips were blooming and violets perfuming
In an alcove sat musing the Dear Irish Maid.

The game bounding forth from each woodland and glen
The sober herds lowing the turtle dove cooing
The lark sweetly tuning with the Blackbird and Thrush
The grey fog was clearing and bright sol appearing
The speckled trout skimming the transparent stream
Near an alcove adjacent in deep contemplation
Sat the goddess of May or the Dear Irish Maid

And fearing that charmer that she may be Diana
And that the fate of Actean might happen to her
