Ar an leathanach seo
- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)the site now occupied by Kilmacabea School. He had also a Church at Tralong. to serve the southern side of the Parish. His own residence was to the east of Ballyhiloe. It was only a thatched bothán. He later lived at Clounties House now occupied by Mr John Roycroft. Here he died in 1831 at the age of 67. He was waked in Kilmacabea Church (Ballyhiloe) and buried in Rosscarbery. There he sleeps in a tomb of ANCIENT CONSTRUCTION.
It is said of him that he was charitable and most unassuming. The poor and needy were always welcome to his home and he gave his last farthing to relieve their wants.
The late Victor ODonovan Power (God rest his soul) told me that he met several who knew Father John personally, and that they all remarked what they called "the Solus" which always was so remarkable about his person.
- This was only a low thatched building of simple construction, probably it was built by inexperienced but willing Volunteers. Father John had undertaken to provide a better church to supply the wants of the Congregation of that side of the Parish. He had already the foundation of another church(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
