- Our patron saint is Senan who lived about the time of St. Finbar with whom he was acquainted and with whom he co-operated.
According to local tradition Senan had a monastery in the parish of Inniscarra, on the banks of the Lee where the graveyard is now situated. In this graveyard is an old church supposed to have been built on the site of the original one.
Tradition connects the saint with the present name of the parish, Inniscarra, in Irish, Inis Ceathramhadh meaning the inch or meadow of the quarter explained as follows:-
When Senan first reached this locality he came on horseback and requested lodging for man and beast from the local chieftain Murtagh O'Duibhne. This the latter refused and the saint was obliged to move off; but not before he prophesied trouble for Murtagh.
