- There are three forts about 200 yds North-East of the Ballyhurst National school. There are two in Mr Robert O'Ryan's field and there is one in Mr. Toomey's field. It is said, that one evening, Mr O Ryan's grandmother was gathering in the cows to be milked, when she heard a baby bawling inside in the fort Mr O'Ryan's field. She asked what was wrong with the child and the fairy answered that he had no milk. The woman said to him to milk one of the cows and to give the milk to the child. Every evening after that the same cow was milked by the fairy men.
There is an under-ground passage from one of Mr. O'Ryan's forts to a beehive-cellar in Garnacanty about 1/4 mile distant. About a mile and a half to the North-west are the circular remains of forts of the Summer residence of the women of the Eognact before the coming of the Normans it was thought that they were built by the Eognact.- Bailitheoir
