- Long ago there were no factories for making shoes. It was the shoe-maker that made them with his hands.
About forty years ago there were shoes called the guttapercha. They got the name from the guttapercha sole that was on them. The guttapercha was a substance like wax and it could be melted. If you went too near the fire the sole would fall off the shoe. The shoes were very dirty and they would destroy any stockings.
There was a shoe-maker in Shyan his name was Lenihan. He was a very good shoe-maker but he used to make the shoes two small.(continues on next page)- Collector
