- Cows
1. Here is an old custom which is still done. When milk maids milk the cows and when they get the milk, they always dip their finger into the milk and bless the side of the cow, this they do in thanksgiving for the milk.
2. On the first of May, it is said that if you go out and milk the neighbour's cow, it is said that you are taking away the butter from the neighbour, and you will have plenty of butter for the whole year, and the neighbour will have none.
3. It is said that if you kill a swallow that the milk of the cow will turn red.
4. All the farmers always hang a horse shoe on the door of the byre and believe it will bring them luck.
