Birr or Birra also called:
Birra - abounding in wells and fountains of water. (O'Brien's Irish English Dictionary). Another author say Birra = Bir = a spit. Others say Birr means a "spring well" as also the bank of a river. Biorra - according to O Clery means "a plain of water" for Birr means water and Rac means plain". In O'Hallorans Ireland we find the following "The word Birr means water in Irish, hence Birra in King's Co., was so called from the number of springs about it.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
