    The flood went straight into the houses and rose up to the roof. The water remained in the houses, although it could easily flow out. The people pulled out the windows and after a considerable time the water went down. Among the rest, the house of the Hamilton Clan was wrecked, and their leader, who was a jealous man was not content until with the aid of a crowbar he had made a large hole in the wall of McLoughlin's house. The water, on finding the opening, rushed in and destroyed everything in its way. When the water flowed away the people returned to their homes, only to find them completely wrecked. Only five houses were spared, and the occupants of the less fortunate dwellinsg were forced to seek a living elsewhere.
    For weeks afterwards bales of linen and cotton, barrels of whiskey and numerous other articles were seen in the Shannon, carried down by its tributary the Roilig River.
    During all this horror the water of the well did not remain quiet. It left the well and entered the dwelling-house now owned by Mr. Kelleher. There it remained for some time, afterwards going into the foot of a mighty ash tree which grows
