Straw-boys still come to the country weddings. They come in and dance to amuse the guests, dressed up in straw and old clothes but always disguised. Sometimes they demand drink or money to buy it, and so make themselves a general nuisance. But usually they are very well received, and entertained. The straw-boys also visit the house of the bridegroom on the night they come from their honeymoon.
Some years ago the married pair did not go to mass on the Sunday following the marriage. Their presence was considered a distraction in the chapel. But this custom has now died out.
