  1. Long ago there was a boy going to college and his name was Patrick Flynn. He was the son of a rich farmer and the father and mother wanted to make a priest of him and every day he used to walk around the college. One evening in the month of May he went out and it was not long before until he heard music. Darkness came over his eyes and when he got sight again there was a great high wall around him and in front of him a shining road. There was musicians on the road playing. He heard a voice saying, "Come with us to the land of rest". He kept going until he reached a river as red as blood. He was afraid then, but the musicians walked the river without wetting themselves, and Patrick followed them. He thought at first the musicians were fairies, and the next time thought that
