  1. The protestant families brought into the Parish of Backs after the famine were scattered after a few years. The managers looking after their work were left. They reclaimed land. When the attendance began to fall in Corroy School the Protestant clergy from Ballina sent about a score of adopted children to the nearest farm and sent them to Corroy school. The house was then called a "Birds Nest". The farmer's son succeded him but was forced to sell it and emigrated to Australia. The farm was then purchased by a Catholic and his family are presently living their prosperously.
