   potatoes are carted home and thrown into the barn. Later on the biggest are selected for seed for the following year. Seed potatoes are of medium size. The bigger ones are marketed locally when the potatoes are being selected for the market they are said to be , "walled".

   Potatoes for sale are weighed out in hundred weights bags and lorried to Ramelton where they are stored in readiness to be shipped. It is the duty of the local agricultural instructer to inspect the potatoes before they are shipped in order to make sure that their is no damaged ones and that they are not under weight. In due course the steamers arrive and are loaded up. The cargo is taken to Liverpool and from this they are shipped in bigger vessels to Port Said, Alexandra and Malta and other Mediterreanen ports.
