    In Dublin’s fair town
    There once lived a maiden,
    Her name was Miss Browne;
    She courted a sailor
    for seven long years,
    And proudly he kissed her
    And called her his dear.

    Then early one morning
    Before dawn of day
    He came to her window
    And these words did say:
    “Arise, my fair maiden,
    Come, follow me;
    Before we get married
    Some friends we must see.”

    He took her through mountains
    And valleys so high,
    And there he left Mary
    To suffer and die;
    Then out from his pocket
    He pulled a pen-knife,
    He ripped her and stripped her,
