  1. Twas on a summer’s holiday
    To Yorkshire I did go
    To spend a little holiday
    With one wee girl I know,
    And as sure as I’m a sinner
    This girl I mean to win
    And marry her next summer
    And then we shall have fun.

    The summer sun was glowing,
    The farmers’ men were mowing,
    The river gently flowing,
    And it filled our hearts with glee,
    The birds their notes were swelling,
    I to her my love was telling,
    And we seated ‘neath the branches
    Of the old Oak Tree.
    III
    The good old man, the farmer,
    He said that he would rather
    I’d marry his young daughter
    And take her for my own;
    In his farm there’s forty acres,
    It grows flowers, fruit, and potatoes,
    But she’s the fairest flower
