  1. There are Cailíns on the mountainside
    And Cailíns in the glen
    With winning ways to break your heart
    And eyes which coax the men;
    But place them all together
    There’s nobody else for me
    But my little Irish Cailín
    In a cottage by the sea.

    One summer’s eve I met her
    And I asked her to be mine,
    No gold or silver yet I owned
    Nor acres broad nor kine;
    I told her if the call would come
    Or if Ireland wanted me
    I’d proudly stand by her right hand
    And fight for liberty.
    III
    She placed her little hand in mine,
    Her eyes did gently glow,
    Saying: “We both are for Ireland,
    Come weal or come woe,
    And if the call do come
    I’ll proudly set you free.”
