  1. Long ago the women used to spin their own yarn. The wool was cut off the sheep in summer. It was washed and dried and combed. The spinning wheel was made of a pedal, a table, and a wheel. The woman moved the pedal with her foot. That made the wheel go round quickly. They knit socks out of the wool. I saw the spinning-wheel in Mrs McCools. That was the way the women spent the long winter nights.
