- Here are some signs of weather.
If you hear the sheep at night, rain is coming.
When cows lie down all facing the same way, rain is coming.
If the rooks build high in the tree, it is a sign of a hard winter coming.
So many mists in March, so many frosts in May
Light Christmas, light harvest, dark Christmas, good harvest
If the cat washes nine times over its ears, it is going to rain
If Candlemas Day is bright and clear, we'll get two winters in one year. If Candlemas Day be dull and drear, we'll have one winter in one years.
When you see the smoke going up straight it is a sign of rain.
When the cat sits with her back to the fire it is a sign of rain.
When you see a crane coming up the river, it is a sign of good weather but when you see it going down it is a sign of bad weather.
