  1. Once upon a time there lived a poor man in Ard Malin named Shan Bán. He was processed for his rent and he had no money to pay it. He had only one cow and he had to sell her and he paid the rent with the money he got. He had no milk then for his children and he did not know what they would do for the Winter.
One day he was sitting lamenting his loses when he heard his name mentioned. He looked up and he saw a wee red man standing in front of him. He asked Shan what his troubles were. Shan told him about selling his cow to pay his rent and that he had no milk now for his children.
The wee man told him not to let that trouble him and go home and he would find a good cow standing in his byre. He must be very good to the cow and never part with her and he would never know want again.
Then Shan went home to look in the byre and there sure enough was a white cow.
