  1. Long long ago Ireland was noted for its famous poets. In many districts they were very numerous but in this district there were only two of great importance. One (of their names) was Mr. Timothy Mc Govern and the other was Mr. Patrick O Donnell. Timothy Mc Govern was born in Meenscovane in the year eighteen seventy and died in nineteen twenty eight. He was greatly reputed throughout Kerry for his poetry. When he died he was buried in the old churchyard in Abbeyfeale. The following are the names of songs composed by Poet Mc Govern. "The Boys of sweet Duagh", "The Dawning of the day" and "The Bank of the Laune". Songs composed by Poet O Donnell are as following: Paddy from Clare and The Volunteers.
