- About fifty years ago there used to be two fairs held in Ballyduff, one on the first of June and one on the first of December. June was the best fair for sheep and lambs. The jobbers came the night before in side-cars and the fair began about seven oclock in the morning. A number of people came there from Listowel and erected tents and sold sweets, cakes and sea-grass. An old woman came from Listowel named Peg Smith and she sold very cheaply and all the children gathered around her. They used to close in the evening about nine or ten oclock and the jobbers engaged boys to drive the cattle to the station. At the Christmas fair, pigs were sold and also cattle, and sweet tents were there as at the June fair.
