  1. There is an old castle in Jeremiah Machmahon's land in Ballybeggan, Tralee. This castle was built in the beginning of the 17th cent It is now in ruins. I was besieged in 1659 by Cromwell and his men. Piaras Ferriter went to Killarney to make peace between himself and the Cromwellians but he was shot near Killarney on a hill called "Martyr's Hill". There is a well near the castle where spies were supposed to be thrown down long ago. It is bottomless. If you put your ear down to it you could hear a river flowing beneath. It is now covered with briars and stones.
