    Bally Carbery Castle was built about 16th century by Carbery O Shea who occupied it during his life, his descendants lived there until they were driven out by the O Donoghues.

    Bally Carbery Castle was build about 16th century by Carberry O Shea who occupied it during his life, his descendants lived there until they were driven out by the O'Donoghues who in turn, were driven out by the O'Connells; Tradition tells us that while Morac O'Connell was in occupation, he at one time held a great banquet, and found he had no water, but at once ordered that sufficient wine be taken from the vaults for all purposes during the entertainment, with the result, that he was known afterwards as Morrough of the wine. It is supposed to have been beseiged and destroyed by Cromwell. The guns supposed to have been used are still to be seen at the lighthouse or Cromwell's Fort Valentia.
    There is a legend here that the river Firtha was caused by a great wave which followed a man called Falvey from where he was hurling at the fair, at what is now Lough Mask to Strand's End where it engulfed him and
