We have a churn at home. It is fourteen years old. The sides are round and there is a handle on one side and when you twist the handle the dash inside turns round too. The top part is square and a lid goes on it. It stands on two legs on a table.In summer butter is made two or three times a week. In winter churning is done once a week, as it is hard to get the cream to ripen in the cold. My mother generally does the churning.When strangers come in they always take a hand at churning. There is a saying that they might take the butter of the churn if they did not churn for a while.The churning at home is done by hand, and the dash(continues on next page)
