There used to be many different kinds of bread made. Oaten bread, potato cake, and boxty bread used to be made. The people do not remember stampy.
Oaten bread was made with oaten meal water and very little flour scarcely any these are mixed together and it is baked in a griddle.
Potato cake was made with potatoes, flour, and salt. The potatoes are blended and mixed with flour and salt. Eneough of bread was baked for three or four days at a time. There is a cross cut on the cake. This is done to keep the crust from rising too high. The bread was baked on a griddle or sometimes in an oven. The bread was often baked in front of the fire standing against an iron support. The cake used to be standing on another iron whilst leaning against the support.
