    The people used to borrow something (something) from the neighbours at shrove so that they would have good luck. An old shoe used to be thrown after the bride for good luck.
    Matches are made in this district. The people being their nearest friends to the bride's house to make the match. Money or stock are given as dowry. The people do not now remember any marriages held in the houses but they heard of them. It is over seventy years since any marriages of this kind took place.
    A wedding feast was held. "Straw-boys used to come to the houses. The "straw-boys" used to be dressed with capes and straw hats. The people used to be very glad when they would see the "straw-boys" coming. They used to be numbered and they used to have a captain. Then they used to dance and they would ask some or the old people to sing a song. When they came out of the wedding house they used to make a big fire of the straw and they used to cheer and dance around the fire.
