    Master had no house every child has to give him a nights lodging. The only pay that the Master got was the money which the children's parents gave him.
    The landlord built houses for the people, and gave them slates. In Ballriggan, the people could not take a bush out of the hedge, nor dig a sod, cut a tree, nor burn a fire of weeds on the land, because if they did the would be fined, or else they would be put out of the house, and a new tenant put into the house.
    The divided their estates into small holdings, and the person who took these had to pay a large rent yearly. Nowadays the Land Commission takes the rent in half yearly instalments. It is for cheaper now than long ago and it suits the people better. If the
