- In the year 1839 a great windstorm broke over Ireland. It tore up houses and corn ricks. Some walls were strong enough but the roofs were swept away by the wind.
The people who lived on hills died of hardship. Animals were killed also by houses and trees. It is said that the wind came from the direction of Lough Allen. The people of the west called it the Lough Allen Wind.- Collector
