The people in my distict had strange customs long ago.
On New Years day the people would not throw out the ashes or sweep the floor, ot throw out dirty water, they would not pay out any money on New Years Day either, because they thought if they gave out money on that day, they would be paying out money all the year.
On May Day they would not churn because they thought that someone who would not be churning would take the butter.
If any girl in the district was not married during Shrove, all the boys would go to her house on Shrove Tuesday night and burn a sheaf of straw outside her door, they were pretending that they were burning her bed, when she(continues on next page)- Collector
