  2. The houses that were there long ago were different to the houses that are there now.
    The houses in olden times had only one room and a kitchen, but the houses now have a kitchen and many rooms.
    They had no cement floors and they had no slate or tiles for the roof of the houses.
    In those times no slate could be got and therefore all the houses were thatched with rye and heather.
    They got the rye from the land
