- (continued from previous page)Long ago when a sheep was killed the four legs of the sheep called the four trotters were put between the rafters and the thatch of the house. This was supposed to bring a blessing on the house, because it is believed that the Blessed Virgin sought shelter amongst the sheep when she was flying into Egypt.
When a person was going to America a dance was held in that person's house the night before he went. All the neighbours were invited. Towards morning a few old women usually started lamenting and wailing. This dance was called an American Wake.
On November's night when the boss would be going to bed he should put down a good-fire and tidy the house, because it is said that the souls would come that night and that the house should be cleaned.
It is not right for Catholics to leave a corpse in a room by itself. Usually two or three women stay in the room.
