    Those are a few lines of a song which was made by the people about the Vandeluer Evictions.
    "With the league to our back,
    Sure we don't care a damn.
    About Vandeluer wife,
    Or the "Battering Ram".
    There were people in Deer Island called O'Briens. They were very poor people and could not pay their rent. The landlord came and evicted them. Three of them died of hunger and the neighbours took in the rest of them.
    There was a poor women living in Kilrush named Mrs Murphy. She was a widow. She was living in a small house and she could not pay her rent. The landlord tried several times to put her out of her house but he failed. Then one day the bailiff's came and tried to put her out by means of the "Battering Ram". The poor woman had to leave her house and live on the side of the road for a week. It happened that she had a brother who took care of her when he heard what had happened to her. he made up his mind that he would have satisfaction out of the landlord. He left him alone for about a month. One evening when he was drinking his tea in his dining room, the man came
