  1. I
Oh, well I remember the evening,
When we had the dance on the road,
John Reilly he played the melodian,
not far from Michael Cannon's abode.
    Our mirth was beyond explanation
The truth into you I declare
The evening been fine and been pleasant
Besides we being free from dull - care
    II
When the dance on the road
    it was over
To Cannons we all made our way
To sit and to sing in contentment
And to while the long hours away.
    III
Now Miss Hawkins her voice most
melodious, so lofty, so loyal and free,
The whole house she kept in rapture,
While seated on Tom Murphy's knee,
Miss Devine her voice loud as thunder,
Her assistance she kindly did lend,
Much thanks then be due to young
    Lizzie,
As with us the whole evening
    did spend.
