  1. There are two forges in the parish.
    The forge called Rispins Forge is situated in the town of Athboy in Chapel Street. The other forge called Kelly's Forge in situated in the town of Athboy in Bridge Street
    Both forges are near a crossroads.
    They have a galvanise roof. There are two fire-places in Rispins and one in Kelly's. The smiths shoe horses - but not cattle.
    The implements the smith uses are:-
    The bellows, The hammer, the buffer, and the anvil -
    The forge water cures warts.
    It is said that if the sparks fly from the red iron towards you it is a sign that money is coming to you.
    The blacksmiths are looked upon as being very strong
