- The houses in my district were mud-walled.
They were all thatched houses in olden times.
The thatch was got from the wheaten straw.
In olden times there was a bed in every kitchen and it was placed beside the dresser and it was called the settle-bed.
The fire was placed in the corner.
No one heard of houses having no chimneys.
Half doors are common in my district and were common always.
The lights they had were rush-candles and bog-deal.
Candles were made in my district in olden times.- Collector
