One Sunday a boy went bathing in a river he got tangled in seaweed and could not release himself. Two boys happened to be walking along the bank. They saw him and ran to rescue him but when he was found he was dead. He was known as Patrick O Connelly.
A man named Tom Hartnett from Coolagown was coming from Listowel in a horse and car. The horse got frightened and ran. The cart overturned and the man was killed. In 1917 a very bad flu swept over our district and many people died. In 1900 a fire broke out in Hewson's. A shed of hay took fire and could not be quenched. Over two tons of hay was destroyed.
