- For the past three weeks the weather is beautifully fine and the farmers are all drawing home the turf. The turf has been cut since month of March, and left in the bog to dry until October and then drawn home.
The turf has to be drawn out of the bog with a donkey. It is made into big stools and one of those stools fills the donkey rail but it would take three of them to fill a horse rail.
Our bog is about a half mile from the house and there is a very bad road leading to it. We draw the turf to the field where it is clamped into a high rick. When it is clamped it is thatched with rushes and scraws to protect it from the rain and storms. (destroying it). It is left there for a month or more before it is used.(continues on next page)- Collector
