- The kinds of bread made long ago were potato cake, pake, stompy and oat and meal bread. Bread was made Monday for all the week. On the oven and the griddle bread was made. Corn was ground locally by querns. There were marks put on the bread and the reason why this was done was that other wise the crust would rise. The mark that was put on the bread was a cross.
