There are three big fairs during the year, the May fair, the July fair and the October fair.
These big fairs are held for sheep, bonhams, horses, cows, and donkies.
About twenty years ago there was a fair for men and women. They stood at the market gate with a long stick on their shoulders and a red handkerchief on top of the stick, and their clothes inside in that, and the farmers from the country around would ask them to come to work with them. They were hired for ten mo0nths of the year, and got a wage of fifteen shilling to a pound a month.
