- In the townland of Cloonawillan near Kinglough stands an ancient Mass Rock, where, the old people tell, a hunted priest said Mass in Penal days. This priest, whose name was Father Mc Gowan, used to take refuge in neighbouring houses, and often suffered dreadful hardships when administering the Sacraments and was often hunted by soldiers.
The Mass was celebrated on a rock which stands about three foot high. Around the rock is a circle of small stones where the people used to kneel. A cross is carved on the face of the rock. This may be seen to the present day on the farm owned by Thomas Mc Gowan of Cloonawillan, Kinlough- Bailitheoir
