There were very small windows in these houses but they were much the same as the ones we have now. The floors were made of clay. On account of the small windows half doors were in use because the people were fond of the sunshine. Half doors are still in use in many country houses.
There were no lamps long ago and bog dale splinters and rush candles were used. The candles were made locally. First the rushes were peeled and then soaked in grease and when they were dry they were ready for use.- Bailitheoir
